Collage//Camp//Kokako Lodge by Viliami

This week our task was to create a collage of what we did at camp. We added photos of what we did each day. On day one we went hiking. I didn't find it fun because I was so tired. On day two it was our first rotation task and I started off, by doing archery then our next task was kayaking and it was fun it was my favorite task that whole day. Then we did Raft building. It was amazing and hopefully we can do it again. On day three I did high ropes and I was so scared when I got on the beam, but I managed to do it. I was proud of my self. We did two more activities, which were really fun, then we did pancake race in our groups, which was fun and yummy. Then we did our camp concert it was the best night that we spent at camp. I was in the baby shark group. We did the the baby shark and it was fun and funny. The next day we got to choose what to put in our sandwich for lunch. After we packed our stuff we got on the bus and went swimming. It was fun, because we had lunch there and our sandwiches were yum. Then we went to school and waited for our parents to pick us up and my mum was happy to see me.

Blog post Data Analysis - Maths by Te Pounamu

As part of our goal setting for 2019 we have been analysing the number of times we have posted on our blogs. My data shows the number of the blog post I made each month since 2015. To help us set goals we worked out the averages for our blog posts each year so we could see if we were going to reach our targets. I have set a goal of having 200 blog posts this year.

Blog Post Analysis/Year/Month by Joseph

This blog post analysis was created on a google sheet, it shows how many blog posts I have posted every year and month. In 2015 I blogged 108 and in 2016 I blogged 68 blog posts, that shows that I have blogged in some years less and some years more. I also showed the layout of how I got my average blog post a year. What I found interesting is that there was a pattern going on each year, in 2015 it was over 100 which is a three digit number, until 2016 it went to 68 which is a 2 digit number, which means it goes to 3 digit number to 2 digit number and repeats again in the same order.

Tech Woodwork - Tamaki college by Karlos

This week for tech at Tamaki college everybody in wood work was either finished or up to using the mallet and the chisel. I was still cutting the two sides, so we can use the chisel and the mallet. I finished the part with the chisel and mallet, If you are right hand you hold the chisel in your left and the mallet in your right. And if you are left handed the mallet goes in your left hand and the chisel goes in the right hand.

Why kokako lodge is a great place for year 7/8 to go to camp by Joel

This Week in Writing Sandra, Miiana, Fui and I worked collaboratively together  to create a 50 word summary and a idea list. Together in our group of 4 we created a screencastify explaining our ideas about why Kokako Lodge is  a great place for year 7/8 students to go to camp. This gives kids the opportunity to get involved in each activity. Our ideas helped us create a digital version of our response to Siri. We listed all of our ideas down on pieces of sheet. So we collaboratively combined all of our ideas into a video.

Tech DLO by Jonathan

Today we had our week 7 session of tech. Our focus this term is metal work. What we are creating in tech is either a pizza cutter (Which is what I'm creating) or a cake server. So far, I am up to finishing the handle for my pizza cutter  . What I am doing to my handle is making it more smooth and getting the mark of it , and sanding it with rough grit sandpaper. I am having a lot of fun in tech, and when I finish on my pizza handle I will have to work on the cutter part.

Inquiry: DARE | Impact Message by Julian

This term, our focus for inquiry is DARE. It is a program that allows children to learn the dangers, and consequences of drug and alcohol use. Yesterday, Constable Cyrus came into our class to give us extra information about the use of them. We want to give a big thanks to Constable Cyrus for going out of his way to help us. This week, our challenge to alert others about these dangers was to create a DLO that showed what could potentially happen as a result of using drugs or alcohol. For this task, I worked with Alex and Jack, and we created a poster warning people about the dangers of drunk driving. On our DLO's we needed a strong message that would persuade people to think twice about driving drunk or using drugs. Our message was "Don't be like this guy, make a choice... Make the right choice..." We thought this was a strong message, and would work well.

Kokako Bird Infographic by Victoria

L.I: To recount and explore the learning and experiences from our year 7/8 camp.
Last week the year 7's and 8's had their camp at Kokako Lodge, and this week we are doing activities based around the environment and our experience there. This first activity showcases an info graphic about the Kokako bird, which is what the place was named after. We had to include information like Diet, Habitat, Appearance, and Predators. I also included 2 facts about the general bird.

Respect Care Award by Fui

This week at assembly I was given a very well earned badge. My badge I earned is the respect badge. To get a respect badge I completed all 5 activities put in the Care award booklet. As I completed my respect badge I learnt how to be respectful even when I know a person is in the wrong place, and I also learnt how to respect others, by not talking when they are talking, and by using integrity everywhere I go.

Technology|Wood Work With Mr. Grundy by Sakina

For another awesome day of tech we did wood work with Mr. Grundy. We started on cutting our wood and the joints with the backed saw and the wood chisel to finish off our designs. I had already cut my wood and one of my joints for my chest of draws. Since my wood wasn't straight, I used help from Mr. Grundy. He used a machine to make my wood straight. If our joints didn't fit in, than we could use the sand paper to make it fit. I was really happy that my joint and other piece of wood fit together. I enjoyed my day of wood work with Mr. Grundy.

Group Challenge by Giovanni

Today Me and Jayden made a slide and a video about Kokako Lodge. This video and slide includes Siri and Kokako Lodge. Mrs Anderson went on her phone and asked Siri "Why is Kokako Lodge a good place for a year 7 & 8"? So whe gave us a challenge which was to make a video and a slide about what Siri would say in exactly 50 words. Me and Jayden came up with: Kokako Lodge is a fantastic place for a year 7 and 8 camp because they have lots of fun activities that are also safe. You can learn something new and overcome fears while you are doing an activity. Kokako also has a stunning view (trees, and a waterfall). We also can get points for every thing that is on the board. 50 words was 50 points plus the extras which were worth 5, 2.5 and 1 point(s) (Exclamation mark, Working together and lots more). Me and Jayden had 79 points out of 100+.

Stretching Sentences by Aung Naing

On Wednesday we played a game called 2 words 1 minute. In this game there are two words and you have to make sentences using those two words in 1 minute. After we had one game we made a DLO were we to explain how to stretch sentences with the 5 w's and the H, to make a better sentence and add more detail.

Sharks by Ellenora

Sharks are carnivores, that means they only eat meat like sea lions, dolphins or smaller sea creatures like crabs. It is true that sharks have attacked humans but not many people know that only 12 species of sharks have ever done this. A baby shark is called a pup and a group of sharks are known as shivers, shoals or schools. You can find sharks in every ocean but they won’t be staying still because they have to keep the water moving over their gills to stay alive.

Blog Post Data Analysis by Jayden

For Maths we made a graph about how many blog posts we had over the years. For the first year I had my device it wasn't easy but I managed to make a few blog posts and then I got better at it over the years as I got more confident with my blogging. My goal is to have at least 500 posts by the end of this year. To achieve that goal I have to blog about 30.4 posts a month which means 7.6 posts a week to achieve it.

Combination Lock Challenge by Pua

LI: To look carefully at the maths language
LI: To chose the best strategy to answer the question
LI: To follow the clues in the right order

For maths this morning we created a combination lock challenge using maths language to give clues to help solve the problem. We were learning to problem solve to find solutions by choosing the best strategy. It was fun but a bit hard because we had to think about the order that we did the clues in.

Kokako Infographic: Florence

Today LS2 is doing activities based around camp. My first activity that I have completed is the Infographic. This info graphic is about Kokako's. I wrote about the Appearance, Diet, Habitat and Facts about Kokako. I did this activity on my own and used information that I already knew about Kokako. I shared my ideas with my group, My group is Victoria, Chavda, Nyjah and Fui. I enjoyed doing this activity.

Avalon's Camp Dairy

This week l created a digital version of my camp dairy. l wrote about the four days that we had on camp. I remembered to use the ideas that l already had in my camp dairy and to think carefully about words and punctuation. I first started off with day 1 this day was awesome because we went on a hike up the Hunua Ranges. We saw different kinds of tree's, birds and bushes when we were on the walk. Fun fact about a Fantail is that their tail looks like a fan that's why they are called a fantail. The next day we went kayaking, Raft building and archery. l liked these activity a lot because they were water activity. My favourite one was kayaking because l liked going around in the water. My favourite activity was Abseiling because l liked coming down from the rocks.

Group Challenge

This week for writing Mrs. Anderson challenged us to write a response that Siri might have said in exactly 50 words. We were to answer, Why is Kokako Lodge a great place to take year 7/8 students on camp? To help us we used our camp diaries, outside the box DLO, LS2 rubric, and our camp photos. As a group, we took part in the learning conversation, by sharing our ideas with each other. To receive points we were to use the selected language features, which were simple, compound, complex sentence, a comma, correct beginning, and end sentence punctuation, an exclamation mark, simile, and brackets. If we used any of these language features we would receive 5 points. Using 50 words gave us 50 points. Extra points were added if we collaborated, communicated, used the LS2 writing rubric, camp photos, camp diaries, outside the box DLO, and if we completed it on time. Altogether our group totaled up to 95 points.

Siri Group Challenge

Today, we have been given a challenge for writing by our teacher Mrs Anderson. Our challenge was to write in exactly 50 words, a response that Siri (An automated program on Apple devices) would give us if we asked it "Why Kokako Lodge is the greatest place to take year 7 and 8's on camp?" Although Mrs Anderson wanted to make this more of a challenge. So what we could do is gain points by using different Language features that would give us 5 points each. If every feature was used, then you could gain a total of 40 points. Although for another 5 points, you needed to make sure that everyone in your group was working together, and that a learning conversation was taking place. If you had exactly 50 words, and you used different references, you could even have 100 points total! Once you finished writing, you needed to digitally create a Siri conversation showing Siri's answer. The final step was to create a Screencastify that had us voicing over the whole conversation. For this activity, I worked with Julian, Jack, and Viliami. We had a lot of fun, and enjoyed recording the most.

Congratulations Alex and Giovanni!

Tsunami by Florence, Miiana, Nevaeh and Matthew

This week for reading we worked collaboratively to find information about Tsunamis. In my group was Miiana, Matthew, and Florence. First, we started off with writing down the things we already knew about Tsunami's, Questions that we wanted to know about Tsunami and things we learned about Tsunamis. Then we made a D.L.O about basic information on Tsunamis. The most interesting thing I found out about Tsunami was that it is a Japanese word for "Harbour Wave".

Wildboy by Nidhi

This week on reading, my reading group and I did reciprocal reading on a book called wild boy. It was about a boy who's name is Brando Yelavich and he wanted to be the the first person to walk around New Zealand's entire coastline. He also wrote a book about his adventurer and their are articles about him. I really enjoyed reading about him and I learned about how he survived in the wild life. And I learned that we should try taking risks and explore the world more.

Boy on a Bike by Chavda

This week I have being doing Reciprocal Reading. We read a text called A Boy on a Bike. My Reading group has  Jonthan, Alice, Jayden, Karlos, Giovanni, Te Pounamu, Joel, Sakina, Villami, Avalon and I. We all created our own Slide or DLO. In the book I was  searching for locations that Craig and Mac travelled in New Zealand on Page 4 . On the second slide it shows the questions and my answers. If you would like to view my work here is the link - Boy On A Bike

Exploring Vocabulary by Alex

Today Rakino group was reading a book called Oakley Creek. Oakley creek is about a girl named Faith who decides to sneak out with her friends to go to Oakley creek. She goes through a hard time getting there but she ends up making it. Although in the end she gets caught by her mother... In the end the book is telling us that Faith went through Guilt and Dilemma. We did a exciting activity where we had to draw out what Guilty and Dilemma looks like. We drew Dilemma and Guilt through our pictures. Dilemma means choosing the right path or having multiple choices to choose from and guilt means you wish you could either change the outcome or regretting something you did. This is the lesson the book teaches us.

Kiwi Can reflection by Nyjah

Yesterday at Kiwi Can we learnt about Negotiation and our new topic is Cooperation. Negotiation is kind of like having an argument because you are fighting over two or more ideas. I would negotiate if I was drawing with multiple people, because I am more used to drawing by myself and thinking of my own creative ideas. Although sometimes I can mix my idea with someone else and make a even better idea then before! The first game we played was to follow someone but you have to try stay under cover and then you have to guess who was following you... The next game was magic shoes. One person had to take another person to the other side and so that person has magic shoes and they have to go back and bring there team to the other side. Although you had to carry them across without getting them to touch the ground. My team was able to win!

Stretching Sentences by Mele

This week for writing LS2 practiced how to write stretching sentences to make our sentences more powerful/detailed. A stretch sentence is a sentence that is added with powerful words into it. Above shows the creative google drawing that I created on my own about stretching sentences. It gives you the opportunity to find out what is the purpose of a stretching sentence, how you write one, and a example about a cartoon character. Using a stretched sentence will need to include the 5 w's. This means that you have improved your sentences, by adding detailed words into it.

DARE Impact Message by Marieta

This week we recevied a special visit from Constable Cyrus. He is currently at police officer that works at Onehunga Police Station. He came over to our class to talk about Drugs, Cigarettes and Alcohol. It was a great experience to see what he taught us, because we asked questions that was he was able to answer. Did you know that a unborn child has no choice, but to drink whatever their mother has had. We were told different scenarios about drink drivers. Above shows a created poster that Mele and I had created together. We have added a lot of strong facts.

Brando Yellavich - by Angela

This week we for reading me and group Waiheke read a book about Brando Yellavich. This DLO talks about his Journey and it also talks about the book. Something I have learnt form Brando Yellavich was taking risks. He was really brave and he completed his goal to raise 10,000 for the Roland McDonald Charity. I would like to know what food he survive off. I think this was hard for him as he was also diagnosed with dyslexia and ADHD. He was written two books and one that I have read is called WildBoy it talks about the challenges he faced during his Journey. Here is also a a picture I have drawn

Kiwi Sport | Ki - O - Rahi by Alice

In Kiwisport we were learning about fairplay and honesty, We were learning about fairplay and honesty so we are honest and we show fairplay when we know we are out. We have been learning to be honest when we have gotten out, We also have been learning how to show fairplay.

For the game Taniwha & Kiona you need to make a group of two and make sure the group is even. Kiona is the group name of the group which is outside around te roto and Taniwha is the group in the inside the island. The group taniwha had to throw the ball at the rock if the ball hits the rock the group Kiona has to stop and the group Taniwha had to yell Mutu which means Kiona the group has to stop.

Here is the link to Alice's blogpost.
