What is a Democracy?

This blog post is about Democracy. Did you know that Democracy is is originated from Greece and the word demo is the word demos in Greek and that Demos mean village. The word Cracy is the word Kratia in Greek and that means Rules, Power and Might.

  1. Privet Digital Footsteps class,
My name is Josh, I go to Karoro School in Greymouth on the West Coast. I like how you have approached the 2017 election. Exploring different forms of government looks like it’s fun. I like the explanation you had for democracy as well. We have done some work of our own on the elections (which can be seen on our class blog and personal blogs).

First of all, I would like to say that I enjoy the information you have at the bottom of it. It is great for someone that doesn’t have much knowledge on the topic. I also like how you have the origin of the word and have the words in Greek. Was it hard to find the translations? Or was it simple?

Despite this there was a flaw in the poster. You have displayed the hierarchy that New Zealand’s Government runs through. You have said this was a Democratic government. However, because the Queen is at the top of everything, it is counted as a monarchy, or in this case a constitutional monarchy. This is not a democratic government as in a democratic government people choose who is at the top of it all.

Other than that I couldn’t find another flaw in your poster. This was a good piece of work, only it had one flaw. I hope you can build on this and can improve next time. Don’t get down about it though, as we all have to make a mistake to know we’re correct.

    Truly yours
    Josh
