Screencastify - Maths by Ofa

The past previous weeks LS2 has been learning how to plan a screen cast and also how to record our learning on screencastify. The screenshot above shows you my plan. The audio section is what I said while recording. The link in my planning template links to my DLO. On Friday Mrs Grant taught LS2 how to download screencastify, how to log in, and how to record our learning. The video above shows you my recording of my maths learning.

Advertising by Carl

This week we learned about advertising. I learned a lot about advertising. There's a lot of false advertising that they fake information on the product. I learned that the colour red is making you hungry and the yellow is making you happy, and the blue is making you calm.

Maths Challenges by Fatongia

Today I chose to play dash in this game I had to use my mind a lot because It was a strategy game. This game was really challenging because it go harder by the level. I recommend this game to students enjoy solving problems.

I used Tagul to create this word cloud that shows who the people are in our local community. A community is a group of people who live in the same place (eg: Panmure ), or have a common connection (eg: the Burmese community).

How the camel has adapted to surviving in the desert?

Introduction

Have you ever heard of a camel? What is a camel? Well a camel is a mammal with a very large neck that lives in a desert. They live in the desert because they are adapted to living in a hot and dry place. Adapt means when an animal makes changes so it can live healthy at it’s place.  Today I am going to tell you the six adaptations that a camel has and why it has it.

Thick Lips & Thick Thur

First I will be talking about it’s thick lips and why it has a thick lip. Camels have thick lips so they can eat the spiky and prickly plants without feeling hurt or pain. Camels also have thick fur which gives them warmth during cold desert nights. They have thick furs to protect them from getting burn as well.

Eye, Ears and Nostrils

Secondly we will be talking about what their eyes, ears and nostrils have to protect them. Camels have eyelashes around their eyes so they can can defend themselves from any sandstorm disaster and also the sun. Camels also have hairs in their ears and nostrils so it can protect them from the sandstorm as well. These parts of the body really need hair.

Feet

Next we will be talking about the camel's feet. Camels have wide feet so they can walk and move easily on the sand. The camel's feet contains pads so it can secure it from the hot sand. The pads also protects them from sinking into the sand. Did you know that when they place their feet on the ground the pads spread out which makes its feet wide. I think the pads are really vital to camels.

Diet

Lastly the food they eat. Camels have one or two humps. Inside the humps are fat which can be used for food. Did you know that Camels eat salt bushes, dry plants, huge thorns and bones. When camels are thirsty they drink water from the cactus. Not many people know that Camels can drink up to 46 litres of water in one whole session. Interestingly camels can go up to 30 days without water.  

Camels have changed throughout the years but will stall enjoy the hot and parched desert.

This term for writing we have been learning how to write an explanation. First we wrote down all the ideas of what a explanation has. I learnt that an explanation has to have present tense words for example the present tense word for slept is sleep. After writing all the ideas down we decided to write an explanation about how the camels has adapted to surviving in the desert. One interesting fact that I learnt about Camels is that camels live up to 40-50 years long.

Meeting Albert Vete by Oh Hsen

Today at assembly we had a special guests come in. Albert Vete and Justin (Asics worker). They were here to present shoes to people who did really well in cross country. Surprisingly I was one of them. Once my name was called out I got to receive my award from Albert Vete. It was an honour to meet Albert Vete and I would like to thank Asics and Albert Vete for giving us amazing running shoes. I will be using the shoes that I have received in the future to improve my running skills.

PBS Holiday Blogging Challenge - created for our learners by our learners!

Our wonderful student leaders were challenged to create and manage our own mini holiday blogging challenge. They have done an amazing job by creating activities that will take our holiday bloggers on a virtual tour around Auckland. There was a wealth of rich discussion as tasks were created and a lot collaborative problem solving to decide who will be responsible for which role in helping to manage the commenting and feedback. 

This challenge has been put in place to grow our leaders and strengthen our literacy skills. To make managing this task easier we have created a spreadsheet where bloggers will post the links to their blog posts and record which blogs they have commented on. 

This morning AJ and Mia introduced the challenge to those who have chosen to take part. What impressed me was the engagement of the audience and the clarity of the instruction. We have borrowed the points system from the Woolf Fisher Summer/Winter Learning Journey that runs over the December and July holidays, so will be giving out prizes to our own holiday blogging challenge champions (and managers).

Connecting with Grey Main School

This year LS2 has been quad blogging with Totara 2 from Grey Main School in Greymouth. A few week ago I was visiting the Toki Pounamu cluster and got to meet the awesome people we have been blogging with.

Inquiry Role Play by Jay-Don, Ofa and Fraidoon

Today for Inquiry we were discussing why it's important to speak out and stand up against a bully. If you get bullied you just walk away and tell the bully to cut it out we made a short movie clip of our role play. Our skit group was Fraidoon and Ofa.

Read an E-Book day

Today was the Read an eBook Day. Learning space 2 were givien the oppintunity to read a book on the Tamaki Collge Overdrive at school. We had to choose any books from the Tamaki College overdrive. I choose a book that was easy to read. It had diffrent kind of storys. These names were put into pictures fruits, furnitures, food and plastic boxs. I think this book was intresting to read. There is a photo above that shows what I did during the Read an ebook day.

Did you know that election is this Saturday? Well it is. So since it election LS2 (Learning Space 2) were learning about Elections. Have a look on our site to see the challenges we were given. Our task was to create a DLO on a person who was a Prime Minister in the past. I chose Helen Clarke.

Kiwi Can by Christopher

Today  at Kiwi Can our lessen for today was risks we played a game called Hand soccer that had risks we also played a game called bib bob bounce. For Hand soccer the rules were not to hit the ball with your feet and try to get the ball into the goal. To play bib bob bounce you have to make a circle the person in the middle has to point to someone and say bib bob bounce if the person that he pointed to says bang the same time the person in the middle said bounce your safe. I thought it was hard not to wack the ground for hand soccer.

Tongan Language Week Challenge by Harlem H and Savelina

This week is Tongan language so week we have created a DLO that shows how to make raw fish. The information is in English and in Tongan. My partner and I had to create the New Zealand translation to Tongan then me and Savelina had to record our self saying the ingredients of the raw fish then we started saying the ingredients in new Zealand and Tongan when we had finished that we said our bits and and then we went and checked our recording and took the mistakes out and went until it was finished
