Where is PyeongChang? | By San Kyaw

I created this DLO that shows how far away PyeongChang is from Auckland. I now know that PyeongChang is in South Korea. South Korea is a country near the Thailand, which is where I come from. One fact I found really interesting is that, the first Olympics was in Chamonix, France in 1924.

This week for reading our group has been focusing on how the Treaty Of Waitangi came to be. The treaty of Waiting was an agreement between the Maori and the English. During the 1700's - 1800's the British were the superpower of the world. They have colonised many countries that are now independent. The British bought land in New Zealand for things as little as a pound. Even though a pound was useless in New Zealand because they did not use cash. British settlement had a huge impact on New Zealand because that helped to develop the New Zealand that we know of today. Some British people back then weren't respecting the culture and laws the Maori's had put in place. The book we read was basically a timeline that lead up to the signing of the treaty of Waitangi.

I created this DLO that shows how far away Pyeongchang is from Auckland I now know Pyeongchang is in South Korea. South Korea is a country near China and Japan. I know that Seoul is the capital of South Korea. One fact I found interesting was that the Korean flag has the yin yang sign in the middle of it. Yin yang mean dark bright.

Comparison Of Mascots - By Sanujan

The Winter Olympic is taking is occurring this year and it is taking place in Pyeongchang County, South Korea, on 9 of February - 25 February 2018. This week for Inquiry were creating a Comparison of the Winter Olympics' Mascots. I worked collaboratively with Jack, Nickaela and Brooklyn.

What we had to do

Our task was to create a Venn Diagram.

After that spent a few minutes searching for some Winter Olympic Mascots.

The Mascots we compared were, Soohrang, and Neve and Gliz.

Did you know that the Soohorang was selected as the mascot because the Soohorang represents a white tiger and white tigers have been the protecters of Korea for a long time.

Mele created this fabulous screencastify to share how she uses her place value knowledge to help her add three digit numbers. She has created a maths story then used this DLO to show how she uses her strategy to find the answer.  I really like the clear way Mele has identified which part of her written answer is her thinking. Great work Mele!

Sentence Structure by Aung Naing

This week we were learning about how sentences can make our writing change. I learnt about simple sentences, compound sentences and complex sentences. Compound sentences are joined together with a fanboys conjunction. Complex sentences have an aaawwwubbis conjunction. I liked learning about this because I tried to use new words in my writing.

Today we have been learning about the Winter Olympics. For this task we would found mascots that were in the Winter Olympics. Then we compared the 2018 mascot (Soohorang) to the Winter Olympics mascot we picked. We decided to choose Bely Mishka. Each mascot has its own meaning. We then compared them using a Venn diagram.

Remembering Our Summer Holiday In Seven Sentences | By Alex

Today for writing all of LS2 had to create a copy of a DLO and then fill it out with seven sentences
(One for each sense) and also a picture of one of the sentences. We also had to try and use different
language features eg; a Hyperbole, a Simile, a Metaphor, Onomatopoeia etc.
I chose to create a picture of my sixth sentence in which I use a simile, the sentence is about when my
brothers blocked a door by pushing it to keep me from getting out.

Today for writing, we needed to reflect a moment in our summer holidays. We were then given a template, with different human senses, and had to morph the senses into sentences about the event we chose to reflect. Once completed, we needed to show our work to a teacher, and illustrate the situation. The moment that I chose to reflect was when I went to a music store to get an amp with my guitar. I really liked this writing activity, and it really did get my imagination going wild once we had started illustrating.

I wondered if one day I could perform with my new hobby, and make a living out of it in the future.

Although I wondered how long this hobby would continue, I just continued to experiment with what I had.

During the Summer Holidays I have done a lot of things like go to Australia. I enjoyed every part of my holiday, especially my uncles wedding. In my recount I have described one event that happened over the long break. Can you guess what I did? I have sentences describing what I did. I heard the water crashing.

I heard the loud music piercing through my ears.

I saw the bright colours in the sky, but I was still not impressed

I felt the sand sliding through my palm.

I felt like I was waiting for years, until it was time.

I wondered when the countdown is going to start.

Remembering Our Summer Holiday by Jay-Don

I heard people laughing and screaming. I saw wet people everywhere. I heard the guy next to me gasp as the cold water hugged his dry body. I felt my body start to shiver, that water really was cold. I wondered if how much time we had before closing? I wondered when we were coming back?

This week we have been focusing on leadership. Leadership is not about being a boss, leadership is about motivating the other students and helping them. We did a role play to show motivation. We are learning how to be good leaders. It was fun showing motivation how we could motivate other students using role play.
