Heptagon Groups 3D Challenge

Today's challenge was to create 3d shapes using the same polygon on each face. Once this had been completed, and the process photographed, the groups were asked to work collaboratively to create a presentation (of their choice) to share their learning. No instructions were given... just hints like the one that reminded the groups to record all the questions they asked each other. This is all their own work and was confidently presented to the class to show their understanding. Great work everyone!

Tamim, Oh S’mar,Tim,Piripi and Puke's Collaborative Paragraph

The sun is the closest star to our planet.Without the sun we would not be able to live. The sun is what gives us time. Earth spins around on its axis so we get an equal share of daytime and night time. Earth’s atmosphere stops the speed of whatever comes into our atmosphere. There are 8 planets that spin in an orbit in our solar system. A universe is made of many galaxies. Our planets is one of many planets in the milky way galaxy. Scientists believe that constellations are a group of stars that form an image. Astronauts are planning to move to Mars for a year to see if humans can live there. They are also trying to travel to other planets. Way’s we get to space have changed in the last 20 years. Gravity makes us not go to space it keeps. The distance in space is called light years. Satellites are in space because before we did not have them and the phone calls we made did not go far so we sent satellites to get our calls to another part of earth.Space probes are also a piece of technology created by scientist. A probe is a spacecraft that travels through space to collect science information. Probes do not have astronauts living inside. Probes send data back to Earth for scientists to study. By learning about the solar system in our school we will be able to understand the ways of the universe. Our idea of space exploration is getting better and better.

Puke's Blog Post from the Festival of Education

In this picture I am sharing my learning with a teacher from Papakura.

This is a photo that I took at the festival of some students creating a mural.

Today Panmure Bridge went to the Festival of Education at the Viaduct. This is a special day when people show what they are capable of. We came into town on a train from Panmure to share the learning we do at PBS.

Puke's Speech

Being Principal for a day.

Imagine being the school principal for a day. What would do?If I were principal for I would ask the teachers how and what I can do to help the students want to learn and to make learning something they  really wanted to do.

Then I would ask the student if there was anything that ,(within reason),we could do to make learning fun and something they wanted to do.Planning for the future is important so I would help the teachers set up career paths for the students.Hopefully this will help the students achieve things that they wanted to do and help them to strive for their goals.

I know good learning happens when there is involvement from both the home and school.I know parents want to be more involved so I would ask the parents how they think their children are doing at school and how the kids are getting along with each other and their teachers.Did you know that there are over 2500 principals in all of New Zealand.

It’s not an easy job knowing that you are helping guide our future teachers, doctors, policemen, principals, scientists and maybe a few politicians. Not to many of those I hope!If you were principal for a day what would you do with the children in New Zealand?I know children enjoy playing sports so I would start a one day inter-class sports competition for all classes. It won’t be our PBS teachers out there with the kids it would be ou parents  teaching studebts how to play.Hopefully this would meant that in future at intervall and lunch parents can help teach new sports like handball and touch.

Maybe one day you could be a principal. You could grow a young mind.  You could lead a great team. You could run a school. Maybe one day you could do these but today I want to do these things.I never knew that being a principal in New Zealand was such an Important job. I would like to give you break Mr Johnston and I know that for one day only, I could be a great leader here at PBS.

New Zealand Timeline from 1908 - 2004

Teagan, Kyra, Deannika, Kataraena, Puke, Pah Nwee and Henry worked collaboratively on this research task. Their challenge was to find three facts about each event, summarise their information and record their findings in their own words. Each slide acknowledges the websites where they found their information if you would like to read about these events in more detail.
