Statistical Investigation by Lukah

L.I To plan and carry out a statistical investigation.

Today LS2 worked together in partners to analyse one of four topics. In this maths session we chose four questions for people to answer (what is your favourite colour, etc), and we recorded those answers on a piece of paper. Second we chose one question out of the four and used that for our graph. We used the data from the paper and created a pie chart on google sheets. We then created a summary of the data we had recorded.

Blog post Data Analysis - Maths by Te Pounamu

As part of our goal setting for 2019 we have been analysing the number of times we have posted on our blogs. My data shows the number of the blog post I made each month since 2015. To help us set goals we worked out the averages for our blog posts each year so we could see if we were going to reach our targets. I have set a goal of having 200 blog posts this year.

Blog Post Data Analysis by Jayden

For Maths we made a graph about how many blog posts we had over the years. For the first year I had my device it wasn't easy but I managed to make a few blog posts and then I got better at it over the years as I got more confident with my blogging. My goal is to have at least 500 posts by the end of this year. To achieve that goal I have to blog about 30.4 posts a month which means 7.6 posts a week to achieve it.

June and Sa Kae find out about LS2

We were finding out about our class. We found out how many people have brothers and sisters in LS2. Most people have both brothers and sisters.

Using statistics to get to know LS2

This year we have a new learning space as well as new classmates. To find out about each other we decided to carry out a statistical inquiry. Our first task was to choose a buddy. After that we had conversations to decide what we wanted to find out. Once we knew our question we set about collecting our data. That involved lots of questioning! With all our data gathered we were then challenged to collate and present our findings. The part I enjoyed the most was finding out what my learners felt was important information. The statements on their DLO's make for interesting reading. You can find these on our individual LS2 blogs.

Statistical Inquiry: Fine and Anthony

Today were challenged to create a graph that told a story and made a comparison using maths language. R6 and R5 worked collaboratively to gather information to create graphs that explain information “All About Us”. Some of our graphs show what languages we speak at home, where we were born and where our parents were born.

Room 9's Statistical Investigation

LI: To use data to look closely at (analyse) our blog posts this year

This morning we looked closely at (analysed) the number blog posts we have made this year on our individual blogs. To do this we carried out a statistical investigation. This meant we gathered our data, sorted our data and created tables and graphs, then draw conclusions by looking for patterns. Finally we reflected on what that data showed us and set PLI’s (personal learning intentions).
