Why Your Teeth Should Stay Healthy - Eric, Lyric and AJ

This week LS2 have been focusing on sharing a community message. Eric, Lyric and I created a prezi to show our learning. In our prezi we talked about why your teeth should stay healthy and what happens if you don't keep them healthy. Our targeted audience is Room 5.

PBS Holiday Blogging Challenge - created for our learners by our learners!

Our wonderful student leaders were challenged to create and manage our own mini holiday blogging challenge. They have done an amazing job by creating activities that will take our holiday bloggers on a virtual tour around Auckland. There was a wealth of rich discussion as tasks were created and a lot collaborative problem solving to decide who will be responsible for which role in helping to manage the commenting and feedback.

This challenge has been put in place to grow our leaders and strengthen our literacy skills. To make managing this task easier we have created a spreadsheet where bloggers will post the links to their blog posts and record which blogs they have commented on.

This morning AJ and Mia introduced the challenge to those who have chosen to take part. What impressed me was the engagement of the audience and the clarity of the instruction. We have borrowed the points system from the Woolf Fisher Summer/Winter Learning Journey that runs over the December and July holidays, so will be giving out prizes to our own holiday blogging challenge champions (and managers).

Anyone who would like to copy and repurpose this resource is most welcome. Link

Two Word Sentences

For writing we have been looking at simple, compound and complex sentences. We learnt that simple sentences are mainly two words, which contain a subject and a verb. We had to write down three examples of a simple compound and complex sentence.

For writing this week we have been learning about two word sentences. Our task was choose three examples and change them into a compound and complex sentence. I thought that this was a really great task.

The hardest steps of my life... by Eric

When it was my turn to go up on the beam I felt nervous. I wanted to go up and come down right away. Step by step up the ladder and up the rungs.

I went to the beam, before I knew it both of my feet were on the beam. I was wrapping my hands around the pole. I asked the instructor "Can I get off now?" but she told me I had to walk a bit. I balanced my way through a quarter of the walk. I was so scared that my legs were quivering. When I was told to step off the beam, I struggled to do it.

When I finally got off, I felt a sigh of relief that I was on my way down. I felt really proud of myself because I had achieved something I though I never would.

This is my recount on one of the events that happen at camp. We had to do five minutes of camp, I picked the High ropes, I wrote what I was feeling and what I was doing.
