Today I represented Panmure Bridge School at the Panmure Yacht club to an audience of teachers. Each school in the Manaiakalani Cluster had one representative who presented a digital learning object in their classroom. I decided to showcase a google poster I created earlier this year based around the Maori Pioneer Battalion. My challenge was to write a letter to the editor sharing my reasons why conscription of men who the government has disappointed should not be allowed. All students that had contributed to the presenting today did excellently and we all encouraged each other. It was nice meeting new people and we all said our goodbye's - for now. Below is the presentation I showcased. Hopefully you like it as much as everyone else did.

Inclined planes by Yvette, Fine, Sajiha and Zeba
This is the google poster my group and I created based around the inclined plane. This ties in with the work we will be doing in science at our technology. This prepares us for the work we will be doing and builds our knowledge on simple machinery. Our task was to write in 25 words what an inclined plane is and how it works.

Teach the Teacher!
Fine, Yvette and Tim stepped up to the challenge yesterday to take a ukulele lesson for all of Room 5 including me! We learnt the chords C, G, G7 and A. Some of us found it really challenging to change chords quickly but our 'teachers' were very patient. We started off in small groups work then took our learning back and strummed along to 'Islands'. Fabulous teaching and a treat to be the learner!

Yvette Reflectes on our Electives Assembly
Today we had our elective sharing assembly. The different electives were science, mosaics, dance, photography, mask making, bike riding, stomp, boot camp, book club, and scrap booking. People from each elective shared their learning and some created an e movie showcasing photo's during their time at their elective. Tim and I represented our elective Mosaics. Everyone in our group had used a stepping stone as our mosaic platform. We're taking them home today! I liked watching the dance elective performance. They had performed a dance piece going along with two different songs. It was a really cool and creative performance and I enjoyed watching it a lot. It was out there and different which made it As well as everyone else! It would've been cool to see more out there presentations or something to make it more lively. If I was still in intermediate next year, I would either go to dance, science, or mosaics again. I loved watching and listening to what people had to say. The presentations were amazing and I loved the photography e movie. It was effective and the music hooked me in as well. The picture looked amazing and professional. Even though the science elective presenters were a little un-practiced, what they had done looked really fun and I would love to do it! All of the electives looked fun and mosaics was really cool and I hope I get to do things like this in college!

Yvette's Speech
I’m going to skip the greetings and just go straight to the issue. In my opinion the more you understand the harm this causes, the more you’ll be willing to stop it. Bullying. What does this mean to you? When you hear that word, does it trigger any emotions - provoke you, in any way? Or… do you simply look the other way? If that’s the case, I truly hope that you listen carefully. This issue needs to be explained, because I am over bullying being swept under the carpet. It does exist! It does happen, and you need to understand that!
Bullying is a form of power that is used to make someone else feel physically and emotionally unstable. It makes them feel insecure about themselves and; makes them question every choice they make. That is plain horrible. I can’t imagine Hailey Petee asked to live in fear of what might be said about her every time she left the house. I can’t imagine why Phoebe Prince asked to hear the constant stream of abuse hurled at her each time she walked out the door. I can’t imagine Amanda Todd asked to have a private photo shared with the world. All these real people have sadly started a new life in heaven; all because of bullying.
A teacher wanted to get the message of bullying out, so she told her students to get a piece of paper, and scrunch it up. Step on it and make it as mashed up as possible; but still try not to rip it. Then the students were told to unfold the paper, smooth out the mess they had made, and see how dirty and damaged it looked. The were then told to say sorry to the paper, but even though they apologized and tried to repair it, the damage didn’t go away. They were told that the scars would never no go away, no matter how much they tried to fix it. This is what happens when a person bullies someone. They say sorry, but the scars are there forever. The damage is done. I really hope you get that message. There are unseen scars, hidden tears, the feeling of dread… Bullying hurts.
Think about the digital footprint you leave behind. Think about the things that you say. Think about the information you give. Think about the reputation you want to up hold; you only have one. It’s okay to walk away. It’s okay to tell someone. It’s okay to ask for help. I want this message to get out, because bullying has to STOP! Bullying closes the door for people and makes them think they have no way out. They lose their belief in everything - that things will never get better. They turn to their faith, and they feel like their faith lets them down. I hope you guys understand the how bad bullying is. We’ve been raised in a society of hate, discrimination, racism. How serious do the consequences need to get before bullies realise bullying is not okay? Word’s hurt…

Manaiakalani Presenters
Yvette and I after our presentations
An exciting day for Room 5 today! Both Yvette and myself presented at the Manaiakalani Hui. I shared my MIT journey so far, and Yvette did an amazing job at sharing a learning experience in our class. I was really impressed with the confident way she explained the learning process and why she enjoyed this task. Great job Yvette! #proud teacher

Persuasive Text: Yvette
These are my screenshots of a fake text. I used iFakeText to create fake messages based around the debate about chaging the New Zealand flag. My messages are against the flag being changed, and Evelyn my partner is for. These messages state the different reasons for and against.

First Maori Contingent in WW1 - Yvette
Room 5 designed their own follow up tasks to help them explore and understand the journey of the men of the First Maori Contingent in WW1. The tasks they designed allowed them to see the war through the eyes of these men and through the eyes of those they left behind. Below are Yvette's DLO's that reflect her learning.

This is a DLO (digital learning object) I created based around the history of The Maori Pioneer Battalion. I created this using prezi. My task was to Create a DLO of your choice (be creative) that tells the history of the first Maori contingent in WW1. This gives information about the journey, the duties, and the retuned solders.
This is my photo collage on the Maori Pioneer Battalion. My task was to Create a collage of images that depict (show) the WW1 journey of these brave men. I created this collage using fotor.
This is my poster I created on the biography of Henare Mo-kena Ko-here. My task was to retell a soldiers story in the Maori Pioneer Battalion WW1. I found an image online to use as my background to make it more effective. I made the writing cursive to make this biography look like it was written back then. All the information is accurate.

Key Competencies on Camp
This is a collaborative presentation created by Zeba, Nesi, and Yvette. It includes their predictions on how they might use the key competencies during camp, and how they actually used them during camp. You can see the comparisons before and after.
This is Fine's Key Competencies Presentation that shows what I thought she needed to do before and after camp. We used these Key Competencies to stay safe, follow our instructions correctly and make the wise choices.
Before camp Sajiha and Saruja did a presentation to predict which Key Competencies they might use at camp then reflect on what they actually used to help them follow the instructors rules and to follow the right track.
