Whale tail - Harakeke and Kete by Jaylee

The fish on the whale tail describe the sea and how whales live in the sea with different kinds of fishes . I did different colours of fishes because in the sea there are more and different fishes who have different colours . The harakeke is showing respect to Maori people for how they make things out of the harakeke leaves . The harakeke fibre was used for ropes, fishing lines and net making .
My whale tail is going forward to describe a kete hanging up on a washing line as you can see . I did three main colours on a kete to show , many love and respect goin through . The reason why i did yellow and red and a light pink its because it shows love and enjoy on how maori people enjoy making a kete

Kandinsky Art by Fala

LI:to use colours that relate to your emotions from the music

For the past couple of weeks LS2 has been investigating mood and atmosphere. We started by reading a variety of ANZAC poems, and highlighting how each sentence made us feel. Afterwards we answered different questions about how we felt during the poems. Our next step was to listen to a montage of music, and use colours to represent how we felt listening to each song.

The circles had to be concentric, meaning they started in the middle of our page, and progressed outwards. This art was based off a Russian artist by the name of Wassily Kandinsky. He would normally listen to opera music and paint how he feels.

L.I: To use colours that relate to your emotions from the music

For art we painted concentric circles within a square. The art design was created by Wassily Kandisnsky. Wassily Kandinsky is a famous Russian artist who is known for creating art by listening to opera music. Each stage of music would make him feel an emotion. Whatever emotion he feels, he picks a paint colour to describe his feeling.

He then does circles starting from the center until it gets big. When the circles fill up a big amount of the page, Kandinsky then colours the background with whatever colour that decribes the feeling he has. LS2 was listening to differnet sounds playing in the background. We were creating circles with colours that match our emotions. We started creating circles from the center and until it gets big enough. We then coloured the background. The activity was very fun to experience. I liked the different colours people used and I also liked how I was mixing colours.

Collaborative Art Challenge

Today was the inter-school netball competition so with not many of us left at school we decided to embrace our own collaborative challenge. The idea was that sportsmanship can be shown anywhere, in this case, at the art table. We noticed that some of us had strengths that could help others so we tapped into those strengths to ensure no one was left behind. Their challenge to work together so that at the end of the day everyone had completed their artwork. This group of learners excelled at this challenge and LS2 now has a great display! Well done everyone.

Juanita's Recount

On Wednesday Graham Dodd, an artist came to PBS. We meet him in the hall. We were really lucky to have an art session with  him.  He gave us some tasks and showed all of us new skills. Shading dark to light to make it stand out more. I learnt that shading make the picture more 3D and less 2D. Hills are actually light blue to show distance but appear green when you walk closer and closer. I think that our pictures went well and they look really nice. Our painting shows the maori land and a multi cultural side( town). It also was fun because it took the whole block then we went straight to lunch.

Art work
On wednesday all the seniors students had fun with Mr Graham Dodd. All the students have to take sketching pencil, pencil, colour pencil and Book for press on. There were R5,6,7,8 and 9. All the senior student have to sit in the row with their class. Mr Graham Dodd gave us a paper with small dots thats where we are going to draw the lines. When we are ready Mr Graham Dodd said that” we can start”. We have to follow Mr Graham Dodd and we have to copy what he did on his paper. He started to do the lines on the dots, we also started after Mr Graham Dodd  . He did some shading so the picture will show up like 3D effect. When we finish colouring the building, people and the tree. We did the rainbow and all the people rainbow were looked great. Mr Graham Dodd colour the hill with light blue because it was far away. We finish all the colouring and the shade. The picture started to look great. I think all the student did their best and they were following Mr Graham Dodd’s instruction so they got their picture similar to Mr Graham Dodd’s picture. All the senior class room did well because they were interested and listened to the instructions and made a great effect.

Awesome Art with Graham Dodd

Today PBS had a fantastic art session with Graham Dodd. He taught us how to draw a landscape scene and bring it to life through shading and placement of the lines. What a great way to spend a teaching block!

Collaborative Art Rich Task

The process...

To help Room 5 see how the Key Competencies and our PBS CARE values can help them in the classroom they were given the challenge of creating a collaborative collage. The challenge was difficult as the paper the images were drawn on needed to be measured and cut to fit the backing paper. Kiwiana and cultural connections was our theme so smart searching skills were needed to locate images.

Our inspiration came from the NZ artist Sarah C who celebrates our unique landscape and culture.

Room 9 were set a collaborative challenge. To be successful they needed to use their maths knowledge to help them create an enlarged reproduction of Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'.

The image above shows what the real painting looks like.

I think both teams successfully completed their collaborative challenge and Room 9 has a fabulous wall display as well.
