Learn-Create-Share: R6/R9

Our Year 7 and 8 students are taking part in a collaborative reading challenge this term. We are using the 'create' component is to show the connections we have made to the information and how we have made this information our own.

Dialogic Feedback

The feedback below shows an example of how dialogic interaction between learners helps encourage justification of responses. I am so proud of my students as this level of thinking is completely independent of any teacher input.

Student led Feedback

The feedback below shows how our Year 7 and 8's use 'learning talk' to help move each other's learning to the next level. It's wonderful to see what happens when students make connections to their learning.

Establishing our prior knowledge:

This term we will be looking at how the Solar System and our knowledge about the Solar System has changed over time. I'm excited to see what we find out if this is what Room 9 know before we start this term's learning journey.

Robbie's Tuakana Teina Time with Chris

Today I went to room 1 to show Chris my blog and comments to room 1. After that we played Starfall and Chris had fun. I really liked to work with Chris because he speaks the same language. I felt happy when he could speak burmese.

Our Reading Journey... so far

Room 9 have been looking at books that have inspired them as readers since they started school. We looked at what it was about the books that hooked us in. After that we worked collaboratively to create a list of reasons why we should learn to read and how we could help the people around us who are still learning to read.

Our Class Treaty 2014

We unpacked the Key Competencies, the PBS Values and our Cybersmart curriculum to explore ways that we could make the most of our 2014 learning opportunities. To make this fair for everyone we came up with a class treaty that will remind us how we can continue to build our collaborative learning environment where everyone feels confident to take risks and share their thinking.

R6/9 'Adopt A Stream'

Yesterday Room 6 and Room 9 worked with Sally from Water Care on the 'Adopt a Stream' program. We carried out observations, tested the water for nitrate and PH levels and checked the turbidity of the water. We worked in groups to carry out these tasks and record our findings as we decided whether of not the water coming out of the storm water drain at Johnson Reserve was clean enough to drink

Room 9 were set a collaborative challenge. To be successful they needed to use their maths knowledge to help them create an enlarged reproduction of Van Gogh's 'Starry Night'.

The image above shows what the real painting looks like.

I think both teams successfully completed their collaborative challenge and Room 9 has a fabulous wall display as well.
