Student Led Conferences by Fui

This week we had our student led conferences. A student led conference is when the students bring their caregivers in to show what they do in school and their work. For our student led conference my siblings and I showed what we do in our class and how it works. At the end of my student led conference my Nanna commented on my blog and gave me feedback on my work. For this years Student led conference I found it fun as I had the chance to share my work and explain how I did it. 

Waltzing Matilda by Mele and Angela

This week for reading we have been looking at different types of ballad poems. The ballad poem that we talked about was the Waltzing Matilda. The Waltzing Matilda poem is a ballad poem, created by Banjo Paterson. Angela and I worked collaboratively to create this activity. Listening to the poem, we used our inference strategy to draw the clues in the poem. In my image I have included the features, of a Swagman lying underneath a coolibah tree. We unpacked the language in the poem and identified what each word meant in it's own context. Above shows the summary that Angela and I have written together. We added 20 important words from the text, 6 most important words, and we used the 6 words to sum a whole summary about our story. 

Ballet - Royal New Zealand Ballet by Mele

Yesterday LS2 was lucky enough to take their first ballet session with Chloe. Chloe is a member of the Royal New Zealand Ballet. We were taught a dance sequence from RNZB's current show ' Black Swan, White Swan' - based on famous ballet ' Swan Lake '. " Commit to the movement to get the best affect" says Chloe. The warm up that we did, included feet and hand movements. We danced to an amazing routine that everyone managed to complete. A big thank you to Chloe for teaching us the amazing ballet skills. Also a big thank you to Fiona (Viliami's Teacher) who organised this event to happen.  I enjoyed doing this routine, because this was my first and ever time getting taught, by a ballet educator. The best part was getting to rehearse our routine over and over again. 

RNZB Experience

Yesterday LS2 had a amazing experience doing ballet and the dance we done was the entrance for Black swan, White swan or swan lake it was fun and the routine we done was using Tchaikovsky wonderful music which sounded interesting and soothing. What we done was good but to fast for me but it was alright i liked when we done the ending because it was fun and a amazing experience for LS2 and thank you to Miss Jones who made this Amazing ballet Experience happen and thank you to  our instructor Chloe from RNZB (Royal New Zealand Ballet) for teaching us how to do the basics skills of ballet and we are grateful for the amazing experience.

Manaiakalani Drawing Session by Nyjah

Last week Friday Alex, Jack and I taught a group of Manaiakalani teachers how to draw using google draw. We firstly presented a little DLO about a quick tutorial on how to draw using basic shapes and curve tools. After we gave a quick example on how to draw everyone tried drawing a flower to start  with. I was really proud of how most of them turned out. Teaching everyone was a challenge at first but when I kept going I got more confident and was able to help everyone by giving directions on how to use the tools and explore tool by myself.  

Ballet Lesson with Chloe by Nyjah

Yesterday LS2 had the amazing opportunity to attend and try out ballet with Chloe. A big thank you to both Chloe and Fiona for making this possible. Our first exercise was to firstly loosen up our feet muscles, legs, arms and hips. After our first exercise we started by practicing a few stances and positions. Our first position was to have our feet in a little v shape. After we got the hang of our positions we did a few ballet jumps. Our challenge was to jump using left leg first in the front and using our back leg to push off. After we had finished that we used our hands as our guide using the opposite arm from our front leg and our back hand facing the side. After we all finished the few exercises Chloe taught us the opening to the swan dance. Everyone in LS2 gave everything a go and i'm sure they enjoyed Chloes way of teaching as she was fun and very productive.

Waltzing Matilda by Jack and Giovanni

Last week for reading, we started an activity. The activity was to read the poem Waltzing Matilda by Banjo Paterson. After reading the poem, we needed to get into pairs, and analyse and unpack the  the poem. With this information we then needed to go through a couple of questions. This included which version of the poem did you prefer, the original or new version? What do you think the poem was about? And what Literary Devices could the poet use to paint a vivid image in our heads? Once those questions were answered, the final step was to create a DLO that would explain what the poem was about in a summary. To help keep our ideas in order, a template DLO was given to us which we could use to store our ideas. For this activity I worked Giovanni, and we had a lot of fun.

Teaching Teachers How To Use Goggle Drawing

On Friday after tech, Alex Nyjah and I taught a group of teachers how to use Google Drawing to create pictures, and how to use Google Slides to create animations. I along with my peers had so much fun teaching teachers, and we were very thankful for the opportunity that we were given. During the lesson, we showed everyone a presentation that we had all prepared the day before that would act as a tutorial for simple drawings. My favourite parts of the experience was meeting the teachers, and preparing the presentation as I enjoyed drawing images for examples.

Collage//Camp//Kokako Lodge by Viliami

This week our task was to create a collage of what we did at camp. We added photos of what we did each day. On day one we went hiking. I didn't find it fun because I was so tired. On day two it was our first rotation task and I started off, by doing archery then our next task was kayaking and it was fun it was my favorite task that whole day. Then we did Raft building. It was amazing and hopefully we can do it again. On day three I did high ropes and I was so scared when I got on the beam, but I managed to do it. I was proud of my self. We did two more activities, which were really fun, then we did pancake race in our groups, which was fun and yummy. Then we did our camp concert it was the best night that we spent at camp. I was in the baby shark group. We did the the baby shark and it was fun and funny. The next day we got to choose what to put in our sandwich for lunch. After we packed our stuff we got on the bus and went swimming. It was fun, because we had lunch there and our sandwiches were yum. Then we went to school and waited for our parents to pick us up and my mum was happy to see me.

Blog post Data Analysis - Maths by Te Pounamu

As part of our goal setting for 2019 we have been analysing the number of times we have posted on our blogs. My data shows the number of the blog post I made each month since 2015. To help us set goals we worked out the averages for our blog posts each year so we could see if we were going to reach our targets. I have set a goal of having 200 blog posts this year.

Blog Post Analysis/Year/Month by Joseph

This blog post analysis was created on a google sheet, it shows how many blog posts I have posted every year and month. In 2015 I blogged 108 and in 2016 I blogged 68 blog posts, that shows that I have blogged in some years less and some years more. I also showed the layout of how I got my average blog post a year. What I found interesting is that there was a pattern going on each year, in 2015 it was over 100 which is a three digit number, until 2016 it went to 68 which is a 2 digit number, which means it goes to 3 digit number to 2 digit number and repeats again in the same order.

Tech Woodwork - Tamaki college by Karlos

This week for tech at Tamaki college everybody in wood work was either finished or up to using the mallet and the chisel. I was still cutting the two sides, so we can use the chisel and the mallet. I finished the part with the chisel and mallet, If you are right hand you hold the chisel in your left and the mallet in your right. And if you are left handed the mallet goes in your left hand and the chisel goes in the right hand. 

Why kokako lodge is a great place for year 7/8 to go to camp by Joel

This Week in Writing Sandra, Miiana, Fui and I worked collaboratively together  to create a 50 word summary and a idea list. Together in our group of 4 we created a screencastify explaining our ideas about why Kokako Lodge is  a great place for year 7/8 students to go to camp. This gives kids the opportunity to get involved in each activity. Our ideas helped us create a digital version of our response to Siri. We listed all of our ideas down on pieces of sheet. So we collaboratively combined all of our ideas into a video. 

Tech DLO by Jonathan

Today we had our week 7 session of tech. Our focus this term is metal work. What we are creating in tech is either a pizza cutter (Which is what I'm creating) or a cake server. So far, I am up to finishing the handle for my pizza cutter  . What I am doing to my handle is making it more smooth and getting the mark of it , and sanding it with rough grit sandpaper. I am having a lot of fun in tech, and when I finish on my pizza handle I will have to work on the cutter part.

Inquiry: DARE | Impact Message by Julian

This term, our focus for inquiry is DARE. It is a program that allows children to learn the dangers, and consequences of drug and alcohol use. Yesterday, Constable Cyrus came into our class to give us extra information about the use of them. We want to give a big thanks to Constable Cyrus for going out of his way to help us. This week, our challenge to alert others about these dangers was to create a DLO that showed what could potentially happen as a result of using drugs or alcohol. For this task, I worked with Alex and Jack, and we created a poster warning people about the dangers of drunk driving. On our DLO's we needed a strong message that would persuade people to think twice about driving drunk or using drugs. Our message was "Don't be like this guy, make a choice... Make the right choice..." We thought this was a strong message, and would work well.
