 L.I: To learn how to sail

On Monday we went sailing at Auckland Sailing Club. Our instructors Colin, Holly and Steph taught us how to assemble the sailing boat. Steph rigged one sailing boat and left it as an example so when we get stuck on our own boat we could go to the example bout and see what's wrong. After she built her boat she chose two people as an example of how to work the boat.

   

Secondly, when we finished our bout we had to put it in the water then get and choose the person that is steering the boat and who is controlling the boom. When we were in the water we had to follow one of the instructors named holly. She was in the power boat with an engen so most of the people couldn't catch up with the power boat. Lastly, we had lunch then got into our boats and hooked up all of the boats together. After hooking up all of the boats the main instructor taught us how and what capsising is. When we got far in the ocean we were playing, Simon says. One of the funniest was when she said pop a big manu. Then she said Simon capsized your bout so all of us did capsize. It was a fun experience at sailing. I got to learn something new and it's always fun to do something that you haven't done before. My favourite part of the day was when we all had to capsize because the difficult part was to get back on the boat. I would like to thank the St Johns Rotary for giving us the awesome opportunity.

LI: To understand how a healthy relationship has a positive impact

 

This week our Inquiry lesson was focused on showing how we think healthy relationships can have a positive impact. In our DLO, we showed how healthy relationships can impact something in a positive manner and what healthy relationships are to us. We all have different opinions on healthy relationships and what we think it could have an impact on. This activity was amazing because I was able to write about how a healthy relationship looks and why it's important to have one.

Statistical Inquiry: Should Covid Vaccinations become Mandatory? by Ayden

LI: To carry out a statistical inquiry

   

Kruse and I carried out a statistical investigation to find out peoples opinion on if vaccinations for Covid become mandatory. We made a google form for people to answer their opinion about the question we posed. After we then proceeded to make a spreadsheet to organise our information and we used the sort tool to make it easier to read. Once people had filled out the form we were able to gather information and people’s opinion on to a pie chart. Their were 4 Graph bars. The first graph bar was the gender of Ls2. The second graph bar was the culture students identified as and the third Graph bar was about people’s opinions. For the opinions most students think it should become mandatory because there is a less chance of being sick and people can go more places. The second highest opinion was maybe. Then lastly two people said no because it should be up to the person if they want it or not. I enjoyed this activity because we got to work in peers and hear what people have got to say about a statistical investigation we carried out.

LI: To use colours that relate to your emotions from the music.

  

For the past couple of weeks LS2 has been investigating mood and atmosphere. We started by reading a variety of ANZAC poems, and highlighting how each sentence made us feel. Afterwards we answered different questions about how we felt during the poems. 

Our next step was to listen to a montage of music, and use colors to represent how we felt listening to each song. The circles had to be concentric, meaning they started in the middle of our page, and progressed outwards. 

This art was based off a Russian artist by the name of Wassily Kandinsky. He would normally listen to opera music and paint how he feels. I enjoyed this activity because I was able to express how I felt using the colors that represented the emotion I was feeling.

L.I: To use colours that relate to your emotions from the music  

For art we painted concentric circles within a square. The art design was created by Wassily Kandisnsky. Wassily Kandinsky is a famous Russian artist who is known for creating art by listening to opera music. Each stage of music would make him feel an emotion. Whatever emotion he feels, he picks a paint colour to describe his feeling. 

He then does circles starting from the center until it gets big. When the circles fill up a big amount of the page, Kandinsky then colours the background with whatever colour that decribes the feeling he has. LS2 was listening to differnet sounds playing in the background. We were creating circles with colours that match our emotions. We started creating circles from the center and until it gets big enough. We then coloured the background. The activity was very fun to experience. I liked the different colours people used and I also liked how I was mixing colours.

LI: To understand how a healthy relationship has a positive impact. We have been learning about the values of a positive relationship and how a healthy relationship has a good effect on people. First, we thought about what a positive relationship looks like to ourselves and then created a DLO talking about our look on positive relationships. 

We then wrote down why a healthy relationship is important to have and conversed with others on our understanding of positive relationships. I then wrote down the qualities of a positive relationship and created a simple diagram. The purpose of this task was to build a more complex understanding of the impact that a healthy relationship has.

This activity was interesting because I was able to share what qualities I look for in a relationship.

Reading Analasis by Mahdi

 LI: To explore and analyse our reading habits We conducted a Ls2 reading analisis to see how much of the class reads for pleasure. We also asked different questions that are related to reading. The point of this task is to find the problem and think of a solution to that problem. In this case the problem is that most of the class is not reading for pleasure. A possible solution is we could have a 30 minute book reading for pleasure session every day in the library where there are more varieties of books. This task showed me the problem and I created a possible solution.

Vocabulary Knowledge by Farzana

LI: To explore and extend your vocabulary knowledge. Our focus for writing was based on exploring a range of different words in order to expand our vocabulary knowledge. First we had learning conversations to explain our opinions using words in the correct context. After that, we collaborated with our partners so we could build our knowledge on four words which are: urge, commend, banter and stern. Urge is to persuade or talk someone into doing something. Commend is praising or congratulating someone for their accomplishments. Banter means to tease someone in a joking/silly way. Being stern is being strict or serious to someone. We role-played our explanations to paint a better picture of our understanding. We extended our vocabulary by collaborating with each other, having learning conversations and roleplaying our explanations. I found this activity enjoyable because we could work together in order to explore new and different words.

For careers I took a career quiz that had multiple selections to see what job or career I am interested in. There were 78 questions meaning there were 78 jobs/careers that were in the quiz. I chose to be a film and editor because I can make lots of money and I can try out new transitional effects, sound effects, and create new content, I can also show everyone what my skills are and what I am capable of to film and edit content. 

Working as a video editor can involve editing skills, need to have the ability to pick the correct sound tracks for each scene, you need to be able to add credits at the end of your film, and also you will need to pay some transitional effects if it is not free. 

 Working as a filmer can involve accurate eye sight, where you are going to be positioned, where the scene is going to take place, and to make sure the camera is directed to one scene at a time. I learnt that a film and video editor can take a couple of years to practise and have editing skills to become a professional.
