Understanding Possession by Tiava

For writing I focused on possession. Possession means when something belongs to someone. E.G The hairdressers salon. For possession writing I learned what it means when you put the punctuation mark somewhere in the word. I found this a little difficult because I got confused some of the times.

Food Tech at Tamaki College by Savelina

At tech my class had a new rotation and I went to cooking tech my teacher was Mrs Heka. For our first class we made a Oreo  milkshake. This was really fun because we got to mix ingredients around and work as a team to make the milkshake. In my group my partners were Shakaia and Sky they really helped me to get this progress done. When we had finish Mrs Heka added chocolate syrup and whipped cream which made the Oreo milkshake even better. As we were done we put our milkshakes on top of our serving desk. Then we started cleaning up our kitchen desk and washing our dishes as we were done we got to go and sit down and finish our milkshakes it was delicious.

In reading this week, we had to define words that connect with the suffrage movement. We also had to answer what we know about the suffrage movement.  Zahra and Javeylor have worked together to complete this DLO. We talked about the questions and also added an image each.

Why it's great to be me by Mishaan

In my class we have a new subject for this year which is called DARE it is all about keeping ourselves self also finding out more about ourselves. This task was fun because we had to get into a group of four and log into our Tagul account this is a website that creates a word cloud and it is very awesome to use. In my group of four we had to type the ABC on a Tagul and type words to answer the question why it's great to be me. For example for the letter A we put down the word active because we are young a very active. Why is it great to be me ? it's great to be me because I am a True friend I am hard working when I'm with my friends I am Brave, I am really Active I like play Netball to get Active and Run around the playground. 

How Maui slowed the Sun - Myths and Legends by Hajera

Our focus this week was myths and legends. Today we have been creating a cartoon image of how Maui (Maori God) slowed down the sun using his hook.  Our task was to create an image showing how Maui slowed down the sun with the help of his brothers.  My partner Miki and I collaborated together to complete the task given to us by our teacher.

Exploring Careers by Shakaia

 

 Yesterday I started a DLO about what I want to do in the future. When I grow up I might choose to be a dancer. Why? Because when I was about 5 years old I loved dancing. In this half detailed DLO I have put in the opportunity you will have getting a job as a dancer and more. This was really easy to complete but it was semi hard as well. One tip I would have to tell you is make sure you turn up with the right gear at all times. But dancing is not my favourite. Yeah. It is actually painting. I am not a very good artist and have no idea on what to do but I enjoy it a lot. This is my so called future. Hopefully it all goes well.

Why it's great to be me - by Magenta

Our focus for today was when I got to do a  word cloud with my group to add some words to our word cloud to explain why it is great to be me. What I fine great about myself is that I am always cheerful and that I have dreams when I grow up. The people I have been working with our Viva,Jorja and Nazella. The thing I have find fun about this activity is that I have learned more things about me.

Difference between 'A' and 'An' by Viva

Today we were learning when to use 'A' and when to use 'An' before a word. If a word begins with a vowel which is A-E-I-O-U or silent 'H' (Eg; Hour or Honor), we use 'an'. We use  the letter 'A' for all other words except for the letters in the vowels. The photo shows the sentences we wrote to practice using the letter 'A' and the word 'An'.

Why its important to speck up agaisnt a bully - by Sky

Today Myself, Hajera, Nickaela, Zahra and Jorja where working on our movie by specking up towards a bully. The thing that we found hard about doing our movie is that we kept forgetting our lines. The thing that we found easy about the movie was that we had the confident's to make the movie and get it finish with out mucking it up when we needed to get it finish. 

5 - 7 - 10 Writing

Today we did the 5-7-10 activity for writing to describe the worst mistake we have ever made. We had to write for 5 minutes, share what we had written with a buddy for 7 minutes, and then carry on writing for another 10 minutes.

Miki's worst mistake ever...

Let me tell you about my worst mistake in my old school. At the school teachers told us to draw the paint on the wall but I accidentally painted the window. My teacher told me to get the paint off so I tried to get the paint off the window, but the paint was very hard and wouldn’t come off. The next day there was no paint on the window so I asked my teacher where it was. My teacher said “I cleaned it up last night.”

I told my teacher I was sorry for painting on the window and said thank you for cleaning the window. When I saw it was ok my body is stopped shaking because I thought I needed to buy a new window!

Nickaela's worst mistake ever...

Let me tell you about the worst mistake I have ever made. One day when I was at my my old school we had our weekly assembly. My teacher told me it was important that we weren’t late because it was our Values assembly. We lined up outside our classroom and walked over to the hall.  

Soon the principal was calling kids on to the stage to get their certificates. I heard my name, ‘...ickaela,’ I felt so happy. I ran to the stage, my face full of excitement and a big smile, only to hear the words, “I said Mickaela not Nickaela. Please get off the stage!” I felt so embarrassed my smile disappeared very quickly. I felt my heart beating a lot slower than when I climbed up the stairs. I heard lots of laughter and saw lots of fingers pointing at me. I felt so humiliated as I turned around and ran back down the stairs.

I walked back as fast as I could to my seat and covered my head with my jersey. I just didn’t want anyone to see me. Now I try really hard to listen carefully because I really know that mistakes can happen when you are not listening carefully.

Hajera's worst mistake ever...

Let me tell you about  the worst mistake I have made at home.  One day my dad just come for work he had an Samsung Galaxy Note 5+ in is hand. It was new and inside the pack. I was in my room. When he got inside he called me so I went to him. I almost fainted when I saw the Samsung Galaxy Note 5+ when he said it was my one! I felt so happy, it was as if I was going to Paris. But then two weeks later I went outside with my phone. It was in my hand the whole time. Then when my mum called me to come in inside I ran to the house and the phone slipped out of my hands and fell on the ground. I was as worried as if I was cat that did not want to go to the vet. I had no idea what to do. It was so scary and then I had to tell him. Sadly now I am not getting a phone until I am year 8 and it's going to be an iphone 6+. My sister has one but I don’t. It was my worst mistake ever and it wouldn’t have happened if i had an screen protector.

Using A or An by Ofa

Today we were learning when to use a and when to use an before a word. If a word begins with a vowel (a-e-i-o-u) or a silent h for example I want an apple for morning tea or I want an ukulele to play with. When we use a we use it for words beginning with all the other words except for the vowels. The DLO above shows you what we use 'an' or 'a' for. I have also included pictures.

We use a for all other words.

What was the suffrage movement?

Since woman's rights was a big issue in the olden days our reading topic this term related . We watched a youtube video about the suffragette movement and wrote a 25 word summary on "what was the suffragette movement". . I found this quite hard because it isn't a skill that I have mastered (summary) but talking to my group helped me make my connection.

1. 1. 85 people from PBS went to a Warriors game. ⅕ of them got to meet the players. How many people didn’t get to meet the warriors?  

    

   2. In Thailand there were 80  boats parked along the shores ¼ of them sailed away to find fish. How many of them stayed?

           

   3. 24 students went to the shop and ¼ came back to school. How many people stayed at the shop.

   
   

   4. 45 people went and played handball. ⅕ of them went to have something to eat. How many of them are left playing handball?

   
   

   5. 28 People from PBS were given a piece of pizza. 1/7 did not eat any. How many people did not eat any pizza?

   
   

   6. 36 people went to the NBA finals. ¼ did not get picked to play in the finals. How many people played in the NBA finals?

   
   

   7. Freeman had 300 pens he had to share ½. How many does he have know?

   
   

   8. Affonso had 18 pieces of pizza. He had to share with 7/9 of his pizza with others. How many pieces does he have left?

   
   

   9. They are 500 apples Josh had to pick 2/4 of the apples off the trees. How many are still on the trees?

Today our group collaborated to create some fraction word problems for our friends to solve. It helped us think about the strategies we use for finding fractions of whole numbers, and it will help them practise their strategies when they find the answers.
